There is nothing quite like chanting U-S-A! and singing our national anthem surrounded by thousands of other proud Americans. It was absolutely a beautiful thing to witness- so many American flags!
Of course, some dumbasses managed to screw it up. I'm looking at you, people who harped about not celebrating death and "he should have been tried in court" and "oh wow we can't throw a party about a dead man."
You people are idiots. Here is why:
1. We weren't celebrating death. I'm sorry, in what language does "God bless America" translate to "wow I'm glad that guy's dead"? And if you see a crowd of people singing together and waving American flags, do you really think "Golly, what a bunch of hateful warmongers"? Because if you do, you're a sicko, and can get out of this country thankyouverymuch.
2. What I witnessed tonight was a testament to how great this country is. People of all ages joining together. People who spoke barely any English at all, coming out to show support for our nation. Hundreds upon hundreds of American flags. Strangers being polite to strangers. You cannot tell me that any of that is a bad thing. I saw a man standing on a bench, waving his flag and saying "God bless America" - this man had a severe mental handicap and was aided by bystanders- he had the biggest smile on his face as he gave all his effort to eke out those three words. Cue misty eyes from yours truly. Nahhhh nothing to see here folks, my eyes are just raining. There is so much hope for this country- and it poured out on Pennsylvania Avenue tonight.
3. Seems to me the people trying to stop the revelry are also the folks who consider themselves "pro-choice". Really, morons? You think I ought to have the right to kill an innocent child, but how dare we kill a man who killed thousands of Americans? That's messed up.
4. It's just not cool to stop people from being happy. Justice doesn't have to be somber or boring. The time for mourning happened on a September Tuesday nearly ten years ago. Now is the time to make progress- progress that is long overdue.
God Bless America- our troops, our people, and all our allies who are working toward justice and peace.
