WTFriday: Lady Propaganda Edition

I had a professor tell me once, "Every day you wake up as a woman in America, you are automatically disadvantaged."  I don't feel disadvantaged, except when I need to reach something on a high shelf or open a jar of salsa or something.  Men have the advantage in both of those things.  But women have the advantage in other things, like, you know, life span.  So if I can't open a salsa jar, but you're dead, I still win.  This is the Girl Power the Spice Girls didn't tell you about.

There need to be changes made to protect women in society.  These changes must be cultural - we already have laws in place, now the government should butt out.  When the government tries to fix things like misogyny, you get things like this poster:

If you're thinking "WHO THE HELL COMES UP WITH THIS STUFF," my answer for you is the UK Government.  Seriously.  If I was Princess Kate I would be so ticked right now.  (Not really.  If I was Princess Kate, I would probably be too busy doing princess things to care about one goofy poster.  Princess things I'd like to do:  Be on a yacht, wear hats because I can, slip n' slide through Buckingham Palace...everything I know about being a princess, I learned from Mia Thermopolis.  Google her.)

Anyway, it shouldn't be women's responsibility to stop rape.  But this image makes us powerless, and lumps all men together as a group of potential rapists.  We know that women are not powerless and only sociopaths commit sexual assault.  But liberals won't let us put people into groups like that (sociopath and non-sociopath), so we're stuck asking nicely...and then getting attacked.

This is when "awareness campaigns" go wrong.  Look at tip #9 - if I'm aware you're going to attack me, but I can't do anything to defend myself, it makes me no less of a victim and you no less of an attacker.  Do I need a sign that you're not going to hurt me?  Shouldn't it be taken for granted that you're not going to do me any harm?  Or do liberals want me to not trust anyone at all?

For tip #1 - Do we really have to teach people how to not use roofies?
For tip #6 - Do we really think that these sickos have friends at all?  Let alone friends who would accompany them everywhere to keep them from committing crimes?
For tip #8 - Do we really think that these attacks happen by accident?

This poster is doomed to fail because there is no possible way for it to list every single situation in which a woman should not be raped.  Because those are ALL the situations, ever, which are infinite.
